LATEST NEWS Tips for Interviewers (Posted: 2008-07-08) Gone are the days when only the interviewee needed to prepare. Remember that whilst your primary goal is to identify the most suitable talent for your vacancy, you play a critical role in how your organization is to be perceived by the ‘prospective employee’. Talented and upwardly mobile candidates normally have a number of exciting employment prospects to choose from and would least likely go to a company that seems disorganized. Some suggestions for interviews; • Plan and use an appropriate location with least opportunity for disruptions. • Have a pre-planned questionnaire. (Remember some years ago when you were being interviewed and the interviewer ran out of questions…you don’t want that now!!).This will also assist you in being consistent in your assessment for all candidates. • Create an objective rating/scoring mechanism in your interview questionnaire. Again, you don’t want to end up only recruiting the best speakers and not have a method of assessing potential/capability! • Lastly, ensure that candidates are allowed adequate opportunity to state their case…the temptation to cut-in or pre-empting what they would say is too great but don’t fall prey to this!!
